Top Woman Lawyer: Hailyn Chen
Munger, Tolles & Olson Co-Managing Partner Hailyn J. Chen was named among Daily Journal’s Top Women Lawyers in a report published May 8, 2019. The annual list recognizes the top 100 women attorneys in California.
This is Ms. Chen’s second appearance on the Daily Journal’s list. The publication highlighted her 2019 election as the firm’s co-managing partner – the first woman of color to hold that position in Munger, Tolles & Olson’s history – as well as her appointment to the State Bar of California’s Board of Trustees.
Ms. Chen was recognized for her representation of the University of California in various matters, including issues involving sexual misconduct. The newspaper also highlighted her successful defense of Airbnb in a case involving a multi-family housing management company’s claim that Airbnb had tortiously interfered with its lease agreements.
In addition to her leadership role at the firm, Ms. Chen focuses her practice on complex business litigation and internal and government investigations. She frequently represents higher education institutions in a range of litigation matters and investigations. An active member of the legal and civic community, Ms. Chen co-chairs the American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Woman Advocate Committee and is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
