Hailyn Chen and Bethany Kristovich Once Again Named Top Women Lawyers

The Daily Journal named Hailyn Chen and Bethany Kristovich 2021 Top Women Lawyers in California on May 19, 2021. This is the fourth consecutive year that Ms. Chen, co-managing partner, has been named to the list and the second year in a row for Ms. Kristovich.

The Daily Journal highlighted Ms. Chen for her work as one of the University of California’s top litigators, defending the University in sensitive  allegations such as sexual assaults involving students. The publication also recognized Ms. Chen for representation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in a putative class action brought by women who claim the sports organization should have done more to protect them from sexual assault by their coaches. Ms. Chen was also noted for her work serving on the State Bar Board of Trustees. There, Ms. Chen took the lead and formed a working group that designed a detailed program to provisional license 2020 law school graduates working under the supervision of practicing attorneys.

Ms. Kristovich, known for her ability to thrive when presented with “sticky problems,” was acknowledged by the Daily Journal for her counsel to clients in crisis. Among many other high-stakes matters, Ms. Kristovich was recognized for her role representing the Atlantic City Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in a lawsuit claiming that its Atlantic City rival lured away two marketing executives and trade secrets. The publication also highlighted Ms. Kristovich’ s trial work representing a major firm against a $1 billion malpractice claim by a large lender that blamed the firm for its widespread losses later that year and for another law firm in which Ms. Kristovich secured an order recommending terminating sanctions.
