Top Cyber Lawyer:  Jonathan Blavin

For the third year in a row, The Daily Journal has named MTO Partner Jonathan Blavin to its list of Top Cyber Lawyers for 2022.

The newspaper spotlighted Mr. Blavin’s career handling the most urgent issues critical to Internet and technology companies, including data privacy and security, and platform liability.

In the published article about Mr. Blavin’s work, The Daily Journal featured his recent representation of Block (previously Square) prevailing when a trial judge dismissed a complaint alleging that Square’s terms discriminate against bankruptcy attorneys, affirming the online payment processors’ ability to enforce restrictions against high-risk and potentially unlawful transactions.

The recognition went into further detail regarding Mr. Blavin representing LinkedIn in a long-running data scraping dispute with data analytics company hiQ, where Mr. Blavin and his colleagues secured the dismissal of hiQ’s federal antitrust claims, and obtained a cert grant from the U.S. Supreme Court and a remand to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in view of the high court’s recent interpretation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Mr. Blavin has substantial experience representing the world’s leading technology and media companies on issues at the forefront of Internet and digital media law.
