Bryan Heckenlively to Discuss Free Speech and Expression on College Campuses at NACUA National Conference
Munger, Tolles & Olson partner Bryan Heckenlively will speak at the National Association of College and University Attorneys’ (NACUA) annual conference, which will be held this week from June 26-29 in Columbus, Ohio.
Mr. Heckenlively will participate in a panel discussion titled “Free Speech Under Scrutiny (Again!)” alongside counsel from higher education institutions. This panel will focus on the key free speech issues arising on campuses today in connection with the conflict in Israel and Gaza, how institutions have addressed those issues and how courts might deal with them.
Mr. Heckenlively handles complex litigation for clients in the technology, financial services and higher education industries and has successfully tried multiple cases to verdict as lead counsel. In the higher education space, his recent notable cases include: obtaining a $67 million settlement for the University of California (UC) as lead counsel in a lawsuit against Under Armour; serving as lead counsel for UC, California State University and other clients in a range of First Amendment cases involving campus speech issues; and representing the ten schools departing the Pac-12 Conference in high-profile litigation related to the breakup of the conference.
