Munger, Tolles & Olson Named 2024 Law Firm of the Year by the California Lawyers Association’s Law Practice Management and Technology Section

Munger, Tolles & Olson is honored to be recognized by the California Lawyers Association’s (CLA) Law Practice Management and Technology (LMPT) Section as the 2024 Law Firm of the Year. The LPMT’s annual awards recognize California attorneys and legal professionals who are advancing law practice management and technology adaption in the state’s innovative legal landscape. An awards ceremony will be held on October 23 in Los Angeles.

MTO was recognized for the firm’s tremendous impact made within the areas of technological leadership and innovation, contributions to legal scholarship, community engagement and education, pro bono and global impact, client impact and legal excellence, and diversity.

Under the strategic guidance of Chief Information Officer Brian Maury, MTO has excelled in integrating cutting-edge technologies, including a comprehensive cloud migration and the development of Dynamics modules for business use. This technological leadership has enhanced operational efficiency, equitable compensation structures and clearer career paths, significantly bolstering employee satisfaction and retention. MTO has also made substantial contributions to legal scholarship, notably through the influential book titled “eDiscovery for Corporate Counsel,” which was published by Thomson Reuters and co-authored by multiple members of the firm.

The firm’s commitment to community engagement and education is demonstrated by staff involvement in teaching and mentoring at colleges and universities, including UCLA and Santa Ana College, as well as dedication to pro bono work. MTO’s technology team has provided training and education at the local level to the California Bar and Ninth Circuit on GenAI. They have also delivered critical legal technology consultations for the United Nations war crimes tribunals in Rwanda and Cambodia and educated judges and investigators on legal technology for ongoing war crimes investigations in Ukraine.

MTO represents some of the world’s most prestigious corporations and pro bono clients and has consistently garnered accolades and certifications that separate us from the pack despite being a smaller firm, such as being No. 1 on the American Lawyer’s A-list and earning Mansfield Certification Plus status. MTO’s achievements in 2023 exemplify a commitment to excellence and innovation, which is fundamental to our ethos and continued success.
