Munger, Tolles & Olson Wins Two ‘Top Verdict’ Honors

Munger, Tolles & Olson won two legal victories recognized on the Daily Journal’s list of Top Verdicts for 2018, published on Feb. 20, 2019.

The Daily Journal selected the firm’s representation of secured transfer/armored car services company Garda in winning summary adjudication in putative class action lawsuits involving meal period and overtime claims as one of California’s Top 20 Defense Verdicts in 2018. Led by Malcom A. Heinicke, the team that secured on behalf of Garda included Joseph D. Lee, Marja-Liisa Overbeck and Sara A. McDermott. The profile specifically highlighted Ms. McDermott’s contribution as the author of one of the two winning motions.

The newspaper also recognized the firm’s appellate victory on behalf of CompPartners, a workers’ compensation services provider, as one of California’s Top 5 Appellate Reversals in 2018. Fred A. Rowley, Jr., Jeffrey Y. Wu and Joshua Meltzer represented CompPartners before the California Supreme Court in the case, which carried major implications for the scope of the exclusive remedy of California workers’ compensation law.
